California Law Protects You—
But Only If Your Contract Does

California gives property owners some of the strongest protections in the nation.
But if your contract doesn't include them, you may be signing those rights away:

3-Day Right to Cancel You can cancel most home improvement contracts within 3 business days—but only if the contract includes the required cancellation notice.
Payment Limits Contractors cannot demand more than 10% down or $1,000 (whichever is less) before work begins. Payments must be tied to work completed.
Mandatory Disclosures Contracts must include the contractor's license number, project scope, timeline, total price, and warnings about mechanics liens on your property.
Lien Protection Rights You have the right to require unconditional lien releases before making progress payments—protecting your home from claims by unpaid subcontractors.
Most contractor-drafted contracts fail to include these required protections.
If it's not in writing, you may not be covered.
